So there are some nostalgic sons of bitches over at www.rs2006.net who are rebuilding the game as it was back in the glory days of '06 (with a few exceptions).
They're not done yet, but you can already make an account. I'm seriously considering playing like I did back in '06 once they're ready for people to play. Create an account and we can reunite TPB in our original kicking-ass grounds come November-Decemberish.

This is basically a private server that is 4xp for 1 HP.
I'll see how it is in November, but for now I'm staying with MC/Dragon Nest.

Actually, learned they were releasing pre-alpha testing later this month.
It's not basically a private server, it's basically Runescape rolled back to 2006.

That's what private servers mainly are, except the fact that they make it easier to get good gear on most of them.
If I see it get popular enough, I'll try it.

Luke, it's a private server by definition. Stop arguing against that point.

It is NOT a private server. It has to be payed to be hosted, has their own liscence and all. It is RuneScape back in 2006 with all it's updates at the time that cache was progressed. The XP rates will be the same. Drop rates the same. EVERYTHING will be the same. Only thing is I'm pretty sure membership is free. It is currently in it's Alpha states, only the administrators and moderators can check it out I believe. It has been in development for YEARS. Don't hate, they did good.

You have a point A-Flyer, I really can't argue back at that.
And if what you say is true.. (That it's been in development for years) Then it definitely will be a legit game, more than likely with 0 major bugs either.
I don't think JaGeX would bother if they made a RS 2006 game or not. 2006scape is a completely different game compared to what they have now. (And much better IMO)
Flyer, you seem excited for this game. Does that mean you will be playing it also?

Might check it out, my only problem is that this stuff usually is just a nerfed version of rs with insanely high xp rates, rares are common, etc.

I'm not saying private server as in bad. A Runescape server not hosted by Jagex is a private server. Of course if they change enough so that it isn't identical to old Runescape (through minor landscape and graphical changes, or something of the like), then it's a completely different game--but if they really try to make it identical, not only is it a private server, but kind of lawsuit-bait.

Thank you for explaining the meaning of a private server. Technically, since they ARE copying RS 2006, it is still Jagex's game and for Jagex, is a private server.
I don't think that (unless the game gets big enough) Jagex will really care. The only problem that I'm scared of it being TOO close to RuneScape.
This a video on TT on RS2006. I looked at their channel and now think that this is really impressive. Though I am worried how it WILL fare with legal matters and JaGeX.
Watching those videos did get me excited though. The XP Rates, are they the same or are they increased?

Makes the game look like fun. Might have some legal issues with jagex though lol.
I didn't start playing RS until mid 2009 so I'm kinda excited to check out the older days of the game.

Jagex knows all about this. There was some legal issues; they're being resolved though.
@whoever asked; I might not really "play" it. Most likely just log on once, walk around, bug abuse, etc. Stupid shit...
And like I said, the rares, xp rates, drop rates, are the same as RS...

Oops, I totally forgot you said they were the same.
If the legal issues are resolved, then the game will definitely be a win, AND we won't have to worry about our hard work being destroyed!

Yeah, guys, it's technically a "private server," just minus the cheating instant gratification that most private servers give you.
It's Runescape reincarnated to the 'ole '06 days.
Let's not get hung up on details here, and focus more on the point:
THROWBACK. RUNESCAPE.

Adios RS2006.
They won't be restoring their files anytime soon now. All backups are gone and their box is completely fucked. rm -rf /etc/'d

Yeah, the Vault guy (head of the project) got his computer hacked.
All the Rs2006 shit is gone. D:
Soo.. nevermind.
I feel like the hacker has to be a rogue JaGeX employee/hitman. Who else would fuck up a project like that?
Highlighted what's wrong. Cyan on the last one because they "could" get hit again if they didn't, so they say, "hire" the right "website security".

I wonder who would exactly do that and why. I don't think Jagex has the time to hire hitmen to take out Rs2006.
Prolly just because they could, or a very interesting Player Moderator.

WELL, Jagex strikes again.
Apparently Vault has been under some legal distress from Jagex for the past few months. Just a few days ago the website domain was seized by Jagex and now reverts to Runescape.com.
2006scape is gone for good.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted and I'm not too upset about losing the $2. My conspiracy theory is that Vault may have worked for Jagex the whole time. Either way, Vault easily made over $100,000 from nostalgic ex-Runescape players. It was good while it lasted.
Now, this being said, there are a few RSPS' that are pretty close to old-school 2006-based Runescape. I can list a few if you guys have any interest in trying them out; perhaps we could get TPB up and running again? I'd be down if I could get some of the old gang back by my side.

Hey, I have some mediocre skill at making RSPS.
Maybe we could make our own? I suggest someone else do the coding though, because I am still fearful of it damaging my computer, haha.

Well Josh. You've both come up with an idea and managed to shoot it down within 3 sentences. I don't think any of us have any coding experience (or knowledge), so yeah. There goes that one.

That it has Masta, but not in the way it used to be.
Anyway, that's really unfortunate as I was gonna give it a go when it was done .

The real problem is me being the host of a private server, Luke. It wouldn't be up for a long time, nor would the connection be very good unless we found a dedicated host.
Also, I'm going to get that Google Fiber crap they have. $70 a month for a Gigabit/per second download speed? Heck to the yes.
